Solar Fire P32 running Steam Engine

Directly following completion, on the 26th of January, 2011, we produced the first solar steam with this unit.

This video shows the Solar Fire P32 heating a boiler to produce steam to run a steam engine.

Below is more technical information:

  • Size: 32 square meters.
  • Estimated thermal power: 15 kw.

This first test was carried out without load to test the system, we will be testing with load and new pipe arrangement over the coming days. We will post videos and better figures when we have them.

The Solar Fire P32 was based on the Prometheus-100 and Prometheus-System. (The Prometheus-100 will be renamed the Solar Fire P9).

Update:
After modifying the pipe system we’ve carried out a pressure test today, 28-Jan-2011, and reached a pressure of 15.5 bar (225 PSI).

We stopped here since we wanted to confirm the system could go to further. Our generation rate was about .7 bar (10 PSI) every 10 minutes, which did not slow in approaching 225 which leads us to expect we can go much higher before stabalizing. This is in accordance with theory as our focal point should be fairly hot, over 800°C.

Tomorrow we will attempt running steam engine for 6 hours.

Stay tuned for further photos, videos and results.
