SOLAR CONCENTRATOR MODEL RAVIRAJ - 324

SPECIFICATIONS:

(1) Entire concentrator rests on central single vertical pillar and revolves around vertical axis. Vertical pillar should be preferably RCC column having foundation in the ground. Height of the pillar may be about 1.5 mt. Any RCC column of the existing building protruding on the flat horizontal roof of the building can serve the best purpose.
(2) Main beam supporting the entire concentrator is 6 mt long and centrally supported on vertical pillar. It is inclined by 10 deg with horizontal and revolves on vertical axis in bearings.
(3) There are 18 cross beams each 6 mt long at right angle to main beam and parallel with the ground. All such cross beams are fitted by pins on main beam so that cross beams can swing around the pin as fulcrum.
(4) Each cross beam carries 18 reflectors, 9 on the left hand side of the main beam and 9 on the right hand side of the main beam. So totally on 18 cross beams, there are 18 x 18 = 324 reflectors.
(5) Each reflector is of 30 cm x 30 cm and is composed of 9 flat mirrors each of 10 cm x 10 cm. Each reflector focuses the reflection on the focal point just vertically above the central pillar, 3 mt away from the concentrator frame.
(6) All the 324 reflectors are focused against the sun just by one hand operated control wheel and screw connected with control cable swinging all the 18 cross beams as desired. Focus is to be adjusted manually every 5 to 10 minutes by this control wheel.
(7) Similarly, entire concentrator is to be moved around the vertical axis manually to track the sun every 5 to 10 minutes. Manual tracking is very much accurate just by observing shadow and focus. All the reflectors once focused do not require any change with repect to cross beam for life time. Only cross beams are to be swung by control wheel.
(8) Focus is fixed permanently and independent of any latitude, north south direction, polar axis, seasonal adjustment etc, so any layman can operate and use the concentrator to generate the heat.
(9) Weight of the entire revolving concentrator including 324 reflectors is about 720 kg. Entire concentrator is pre fabricated and folding and can be assembled at site.
(10) At focal point, any type of small boiler can be placed which will generate steam from water. Monotube boiler with coiled tubes may be preferable. Peak temperature may be around 1200 deg C. Focal area will be about 1 sq ft. Reflection area of totally 324 reflectors is 29 sq mt.
(11) Shipment volume may be about 4 cu mt if reflectors to be made at site. If we have to despatch ready made reflectors, shipment volume will be 6 cu mt.
